Getting Started on Social Media

Firstly let me start by saying Happy New Year to one and all.
And I hope you have had a safe and enjoyable break with those people most speacial in your life.

As we move into 2010 it seems that all we seem to be talking about with marketing is in and around Social Media Marketing (SMM). 

This is both understandable given the global buzz around SMM but also a little concerning, because we should not lose sight of the fact that Social Media when properly researched, designed, implemented and controlled can be a wonderful weapon in your marketing arsenal but not the entire arsenal.

Globally the trend is for more businesses to start using it in their promotional efforts and firms already using it to increase their financial commitment to it in 2010 and beyond.

What remains to be seen is whether businesses will learn to properly integrate SMM into their overall marketing planning process for maximum effect.

Over time, this blog will try to guide people with ongoing discussion about this area, but not exclusively on this area, and always with a view to fitting in to the overall marketing planning process.
